Prospect Expressway: August 21st, 2009

Beating out the July 31st images by a long shot, God was really painting on August 21st - taking the photos felt like a distraction to just savoring the moments of this amazing sunset... (all shots straight out of the camera)

Propsect Expressway: July 31st, 2009

On the 31st of July some of the most saturated and unique clouds formed over New York and New Jersey.  I ended up staying outside about twice as long as I had meant to because the light and colors outside just kept getting more and more amazing as time passed.  All photos taken with my Canon 17-40mm lens.

Prospect Expressway: July 19th, 2009

Another beautiful sunset.  The first image was taken with the 17-40mm lens, and the second with Canon's 100-400mm f3.5-5.6L IS lens, zoomed into some of the detail of the color in the sky.

Prospect Expressway: June 26th, 2009

All photos in this series taken from the overpass over Prospect Expressway on 5th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

The sunsets that we get near our apartment are absolutely amazing: some of the most breathtaking colors that I've ever seen in the sky.  On this particular day the clouds were not only extremely colorful, but also full of very strange shapes.  All images in this group shot with my Canon 17-40mm f4L lens.

Published Photos: Executive Travel Magazine, September 2008

One of my photos from our London trip in 2007 was published in Executive Travel Magazine's September of 2008 issue: The London Issue (notice my photo credit in the lower right hand corner on magazine page).  Executive Travel Magazine is published by American Express Publishing out of New York.  The photo was taken on Marylebone High Street in London just shy of midnight on February 23rd of 2007.

From the Roof: October 29th, 2009

A couple nights ago I looked out our back window and noticed that the clouds were all hanging right about the level of the Empire State Building which I knew would make interesting photos.  The clouds were beautiful and showed up in the photos even better than I'd hoped they would - enjoy! The second shot is with my camera set to heavy saturation which is the reason for the richer colors; the bright building off to the right lighting up the clouds is the Empire State Building.  I set the camera at more of mid-aperature than I normally do, which I think helped make these photos a little sharper than some of my previous posts in this series (all images are straight out of the camera).

From the Roof: July 4th, 2009

These shots were taking between midnight and 1am on the 4th - the night before the fireworks.  All photos shot with my Canon 17-40mm f4L lens.  The third photo is looking down onto our street in front of the apartment: the shots of the highway and Manhattan skyline are all looking off the back of the building.

From the Roof: January 10th, 2009

The first shot below is what's become my very standard composition from the roof.  With the recent purchase of a Canon 17-40mm f4L lens, I'm now able to get quite a bit wider of a shot than with my older 28-105.  The black and white below is of the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower, the tallest building in Brooklyn.  The reason it's the tallest in Brooklyn?  It's actually illegal to build anything higher than it.  Funny thing is that it's now owned by Magic Johnson, who's converting it into luxury condos.  Ridiculous.  The Bank Tower photo was taken with a Canon 100-400mm f3.5-5.6L IS lens - the building is just over a mile and a half away from us (the lens was not zoomed to 400mm).

From the Roof: May 24th, 2008

Note: in the second photo I was using my flash to highlight the roof a bit, which is what the blue glow is.  Both photos taken with a Canon 17-40mm f4L lens.

From The Roof: September 11th, 2007

All the photos in this series are shots taken from the roof of our apartment building in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

The first shot below is of the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) rising up over the Gowanas Canal: the towers in the background are in Jersey City, NJ.  The second shot is of Brooklyn, New Jersey, and Manhattan - the lights are the memorial lights at the World Trade Center, where the World Trade Center twin towers once stood.  Both shot with a Canon 28-105mm f3.5-4.5 lens.
